Winter Wipeout

😎 Introduction

The CrewLAB Winter Wipeout Challenge is an engaging competition designed to keep athletes connected, motivated, and on track throughout the winter off-season.

Running from November to January, this challenge offers a structured and fun way to compete against your teammates by awarding points for social engagement, healthy habits, and physically preparing to perform better than ever in the upcoming season while staying injury-free.

🛠️ Setup

Your team must be properly configured to get the most out of our Winter Wipeout

  1. Configure Roles: Coaches and Captains can set up the challenge
    • Some coaches may leave the team during the challenge. It’s important that, before doing that, the proper people are made Captain or Coach in the Roster.
    • If you need to adjust your role and there are no Captains or Coaches in the app, email support@crewlab.io.
    • See more about roles here.
  2. Set up Squads: The team is subdivided into smaller groups.
    • If your team is already sorted into Squads, those existing Squads will stay the same when the Challenge begins.
    • Coaches and Captains can rearrange and rename Squads at any time from the Roster and Profiles. Learn more here.
  3. Points: Activities accumulate points during the challenge.
    • Leaderboards automatically appear and calculate points in real-time.
    • Individual points stay with the Athlete, so if Squads are re-sorted, Squad points will automatically update
    • Any individual points earned while not in a Squad during the challenge will be added to a Squad if the Athlete is put into a Squad later in the challenge.
  4. Timeline: Winter wipeout runs for several weeks.
    • Everyone is on the same timeline, so you can compare points with anyone on the platform.
    • You can find points for custom dates for your own challenge by adjusting the date filters on the Analytics in app and on web.

💪 Train your body smarter, not harder

This game is made to help athletes train optimally.

⏳ Time-based Points

Do something every day…

⬆️ 33% points bonus for the first 60 minutes of cardio per day (rowing, running, skiing, swimming, or cycling)

But don’t do too much!

⬇️ 50% penalty for any cardio beyond your first 2 hours within the same day.

Time is cumulative across workouts.

For example, if you do three 20-minute workouts then one 75-minute workout in a day, the first three workouts will get a 33% more points and the last 15 minutes of your 75-minute workout will get 50% fewer points.

Sport-specific training is worth more

🛑 Maximum 300 points (30 minutes) each of strength training and mobility.

Strength training and mobility contribute to improving and maintaining fitness and reducing the risk of injury or burnout, but they don’t necessarily make you faster at your sport.

🧠 Check-in Points

Healthy habits don’t stop when you’re on break. Keep the streak of good sleep and checking in going.

Training Journal

Prepare, do, then review, so next time goes even better. 💭  Take at least one moment each day to assess where your body and mind are and how well you’ve been taking care of yourself, especially before you do any physical activities. 🤩 A steady stream of raw workout data isn’t very inspirational and doesn’t keep the team connected. Add details to show how you put in the work, not just that you put in the work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Winter Wipeout?

Winter Wipeout is a within-team challenge to help your Athletes maintain social connection, habit consistency, and physical fitness during the off-season.

Can I opt out of Winter Wipeout for myself or my team?

There is no way to opt out of Winter Wipeout — it runs automatically for all teams during the challenge period. However, if the competitive element isn’t right for your team, you can simply choose not to emphasize the points or Leaderboards. Many teams love the competition, but others use Winter Wipeout purely as a framework for staying connected and consistent without focusing on rankings.

Can I do custom dates for the challenge?

You view the points on your custom dates by adjusting the filters in the squad leaderboards. You’ll need to adjust the dates of the filter each time you reload the charts, or just keep the browser tab open. Today, we don’t store the filter settings between sessions.

More on this in the Setup section above.

How does Winter Wipeout work?

Athletes are assigned to Squads, and then individually participate in fitness, habit tracking, and social activities to earn points toward the individual and Squad Leaderboards.

Is my team’s Winter Wipeout activity visible to other teams?

All activities and Leaderboard rankings, individual or Squad, are only visible to your team.

For Coaches

Is Winter Wipeout compliant with sport governing bodies (e.g. NCAA, IRA, ACRA)?

All CrewLAB Training Challenges have been verified by dozens of compliance departments. Please click here if you have questions about specific organizations or requirements.

Does it cost anything for my team to participate in Winter Wipeout?

Winter Wipeout is available on any CrewLAB plan, free or paid.

What do I have to set up so my team can participate in Winter Wipeout?

CrewLAB automatically tracks activity points and manages the Leaderboards. However, you should customize your Squads or promote at least one Athlete to a team Captain if you won’t be managing the Team during the challenge.

Can I customize Winter Wipeout to my team’s goals?

The points system is fixed, so that everyone on the platform can share the same experience and compare.

The dates of the challenge are fixed as well, however, in the Analytics on both the app and web you can change the date range to effectively customize the challenge to your team’s break.

  • In App: Analytics > Leaderboard or Training Points > Adjust Date Range
  • On Web: Analytics > Squad Leaderboard > Adjust Date Range
Will CrewLAB sell or share my team’s data to third parties?

Your team’s data is yours, forever.

Can I participate as a Coach without appearing on the Leaderboard?

There is no way (and we’d argue no need) to exclude yourself from the individual Leaderboard while still earning points. Coaches should be healthy athletes too!

However, Coaches don’t have to be assigned to a Squad — if you’re not in a Squad, you won’t appear on the Squad Leaderboard.

For Athletes

What do I need to do to participate in Winter Wipeout?

You can log workouts, training journal information, and/or engage with your teammates to earn points.

Will I get kicked out of my Squad or Winter Wipeout if I don’t do something every day?

No, but consistent participation helps you and your Squad climb the leaderboard and stay connected, motivated, and ready for anything.

Is Winter Wipeout competitive or collaborative?

Both—there are individual and Squad Leaderboards, so the more you do for yourself, the more your Squad will also benefit. When your Squad earns points, it motivates other Squads to compete against yours, which encourages your whole team to get stronger physically, mentally, and socially!
