Get ready to toss your cox at HOCR 2024!

Get ready for an exciting new (unofficial) addition to this year’s Head of the Charles Regatta – the Toss the Cox competition! This fun and lighthearted event will test the strength, accuracy, and teamwork of rowing crews in a whole new way.

Toss the Cox is a playful competition where rowing crews will toss their coxswain* for distance and accuracy. It’s a chance for crews to show off their teamwork and have some fun off/in the water.

*We actually have a stunt double, so each coxswain can stand nearby and judge the tossers.

How will the competition work?

The competition will run for the duration of the Head of the Charles, from 18–20 October 2024.

Teams will designate their “tossers” (usually the strongest rowers) and their coxswain to toss into a designated area. Ok, we’re kidding, we’ve actually got a stunt double to use as the coxswain.

Teams will be judged on distance and accuracy of their toss.

Safety measures will be in place to ensure the well-being of all participants, including our stunt double.

Note, and just to reiterate: No coxswains will be harmed during the competition – each tosser will be using our trusty stunt double, so your coxswain can just stand nearby and judge the tosser. 😎

How to participate

It’s free to enter! Open to all teams participating in the 2024 Head of the Charles Regatta.

Visit a participating brands tent at the regatta to register. One person can register, however everyone in the team will need to give consent, and sign a waiver.

Detailed rules and safety guidelines will be provided to all participating teams at the regatta. Our top priority is ensuring a fun and safe experience for everyone involved. Including our stunt double. 😎

Spectators are welcome and encouraged! Come cheer on your favorite teams as they compete in this new Championship event.
