Athlete Guide

This guide is for athletes on teams that use CrewLAB. CrewLAB is a team training app where your team communicates, shares workouts and videos, and stays connected. This guide covers everything you need as an athlete using a team training app — from joining your team to daily use.

Joining a Team

Most athletes join the team training app through an invite link from their coach or club admin. Tap the link, create your account (or sign in if you already have one), and you’ll be added to the team automatically.

If you’re joining without an invite, download the team training app from the App Store or Google Play and search for your team. You can request to join, and your coach will approve you.

Captains and self-organized groups: You can also create your own team. This is common for captain-led training groups, offseason crews, or informal training squads. You’ll have full control over the group and can invite others to join.

Registering for a Program

If your club uses CrewLAB for registration, you’ll receive a link to register for a specific program — a season, camp, clinic, or event. The registration flow walks you through:

  • Selecting the program and confirming your details
  • Completing any required waivers (digital signature)
  • Making a payment (credit card, ACH, Apple Pay, or Google Pay)
  • Confirming your registration

Once registered, you’ll see the program in your app and your payment status is tracked automatically. You can view receipts and payment history at any time.

Setting Up Your Profile

Your profile is visible to your team. Fill it out completely — name, photo, and contact information. Your coach uses this to manage the roster and communicate with you. If your club tracks emergency contacts, add those too.

Connect Your Wearables

CrewLAB integrates with Garmin and other fitness devices. Connect your wearable to automatically sync workout data — heart rate, distance, stroke rate, pace, and more. This gives your coach visibility into your training load and helps with readiness and recovery planning.

To connect: go to Settings → Integrations → select your device. Follow the authorization flow and your data will start syncing automatically.

Using the Team Training App Daily

Here’s what a typical day on CrewLAB looks like for athletes using the team training app:

Daily Check-In

Start your day by completing the Daily Check-In. Rate your mood, sleep, energy, and any other factors your coach has configured. This takes about 30 seconds and gives your coach a real-time picture of how the team is feeling. It also helps you track your own well-being trends over time.

Athletes and Captains can see only their own check-in data. Coaches can see data for all team members.

Log Workouts

After training, log your workout. If you have a connected wearable, much of this happens automatically. You can also log manually — add notes, rate perceived effort, and tag the type of session. Rich workouts (with data from a device) give your coach the best insight into your training load.

Post Videos

Capture and upload video from training or competition. Tag teammates so they can find clips of themselves. Your coach may also post video with analysis and feedback. Video is a powerful tool for technique review and is used by programs at every level.

Team Messaging for Athletes

Stay connected with your team through group chat. Your team may have multiple channels — one for the full team, one for a specific squad, or one for social/off-topic. Keep notifications on so you don’t miss important updates from your coach. All messaging is SafeSport and MAAPP compliant.

Calendar and RSVPs

Check the team calendar for upcoming practices, events, and competitions. RSVP to let your coach know whether you’ll be there — this directly feeds the attendance tracking system. If you can’t make it, RSVP “no” so your coach can plan accordingly.
