The action isn’t quite finished in Milan, but it’s never too early to look ahead. There’s plenty to look forward to in Los Angeles in 2028—especially if you’re an endurance sport enthusiast.

If endurance sports are the “exploration” sports — the ones not limited to the bounds of a field or arena, the ones where participants can actually get out and see the world around them — it only makes sense that those sports should also be explored. With the Olympics coming to Los Angeles in 2028, there are numerous opportunities to get out and explore endurance sports, whether you’re new to each discipline, or have been involved for years.

Endurance events at the Olympics fall into a couple of primary categories: swimming, rowing, cycling, and running.

All pool swimming events at the Olympics will be hosted in SoFi Stadium, while the classic 10k open water events will be based at Long Beach’s Belmont Shore. Swimming events for the 2026 Paralympic Games will be hosted at the Long Beach Aquatic Center. Rowing will also be based in Long Beach, with traditional events hosted at the Long Beach Marine Stadium, and Coastal Rowing sprints making their Olympic debut at Belmont Shore as well.

If you’re a fan of the marathon, triathlon or road cycling events, Venice Beach will likely be your headquarters, with all those events occurring either on the beach itself or the nearby Venice Beach Boardwalk. Track running events will be hosted at the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, while indoor cycling will be based at the Carson Velodrome.

More complete information on Olympic and Paralympic venues can be found on the LA28 website —though some are still subject to confirmation or change. Events with outstanding venue assignments include race walking, road cycling time trial and finish line, and marathon and para-marathon finish lines.

Registration for the ticket draw opened on January 14th, and if selected, fans will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to Olympic events later this year. Registration can be found through the LA28 ticket portal, and the website offers the ability to prioritize favorite sports when ticket sales go live.

Beyond enjoying these events as a spectator, there is also the opportunity to get further involved in the Olympic experience as a volunteer. Information on volunteering during the Olympics and in the time before the Games reach Los Angeles can be found on the LA28 website, including the volunteer registration form.

Ultimately, the purpose of the Olympics is to bring people together. No matter what team you’re pulling for, or what’s your event of choice, the whole point is the community forged with and through sports.
